Coming home to yourself

Therapeutic Tarot; Creative/Traditional Talking Therapy; Email Counselling; Meditation Tutoring.

Sunderland/Online

I help people - particularly women in midlife - going through periods of change and uncertainty reconnect with who they are and what they want from life.

Sometimes a major life event leaves us feeling lost, perhaps wondering who we are and what we want from life. This could be a “milestone” birthday, burn out, (peri)menopause, or a loss (in addition to a bereavement, this could be retirement/redundancy, relationship/friendship breakdown, relocation, onset of chronic illness/disability, loss of faith etc.) Sometimes feeling lost occurs without any identifiable reason.

I help you to reaffirm and reconnect with the essence of your identity and support you through any changes you may want to make in light of this.

I also work with bereavement (including pet loss), depression and anxiety, and learning to cope with ADHD as an adult/later diagnosis.

About

About Me

My journey into this profession began with an MSc in Psychology in 2017 and I qualified as a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor in 2020. What lead me to counselling was my own history of struggling with depression and burn out, and the huge difference that long-term psychotherapy made to my life. As such, I know how daunting it can be to take that first step in seeking help.

I have a very warm, supportive and empathetic approach. Although I will sometimes gently challenge you, I am not the person for you if you think you would benefit from a “tough love” approach. Some clients have been surprised by how quickly they have felt able to trust me and really open up about what troubles them. I see therapy as a partnership, the client and I working together to find a positive way forward. I might have the knowledge of theory and technique, but you are the expert on yourself.

How I Work

Psychotherapeutic Counselling

One-to-one traditional talking therapy, available face-to-face in Sunderland or online. I draw from a range of therapeutic traditions to help you work through the problems you bring in a confidential, supportive environment.

Therapeutic Tarot

One-off or short term sessions using tarot cards to explore an area of your life or a current dilemma. We use the imagery of the cards and your response to them to try to  arrive at a solution or create a better understanding of your life.

Creative Therapy

You do not need to be “good” at art or consider yourself to be a “creative person” to benefit from working this way. Using creative methods helps us to access information that is under the surface of what we are consciously aware of, as it gets us out of our more logical, analytic way of thinking. It can include drawing, guided imagery, working with stories, sand tray, matryoshka dolls, working with images or modelling clay.

Alternative Therapeutic Work

I am able to bring a range of less typical ways of working to your therapeutic journey, if this is something you are interested in. This could include working with Goddesses, therapeutic tarot, tapping, meditation and seasonal ritual.
